The Icelandic hip hop scene may still be young and
small but Cell7—a pioneer of the genre and a rare female presence in a male dominated world—is not just one of its steady fixtures but also one of its brightest stars. As a veteran of the Icelandic rap scene, Cell7 is constantly cited as an inspiration for established artists and women just breaking into the genre. She returns last year with her sophomore solo album, “Is anybody listening?” and proves yet again that she is one of the most original voices out there.
Cell7´s second solo offering exudes the confidence of an established artist but also exhibits the vitality of a growing one. She shines in this tour de force, exhibiting new range and versatility as she not only raps but sings and produces some of her own tracks. There is real soul, strength and insight here,
all of it steeped in infectious grooves and melodies and a full frontal arsenal of rhymes that show that Cell7 is ready to decimate any preconceptions of what Icelandic music should sound like.
Cell7 started 2020 with bang, nominated for three awards and winning rap album of the year at the The Icelandic Music Awards and nominated for the Nordic Music prize along with the Oscar award winning composer Hildur Guðnadóttir.
She performed at ESNS which is the biggest showcase festival of Europe. She was penned as a recommended artist to see at Eurosonic https://esns.nl/recommended-artists-by-media-2020/
Cell7 also toured and performed all over Europe in early 2020
Started of with a tour in Switzerland in February performing in the following places: Kraftfeld, Winterthur, Case a Chocs, Neuchâtel and Nordklang Festival, St. Gallen
While in Germany in March, scheduled to perform at JAJAJA at Fluxbau, the Covid-19 stopped the show and she had to return to Iceland where she has used the time to plan her world domination and working on new music.
Upcoming shows in Norway, Denmark, Germany and more are still on but rescheduled until later this year. With the unprecedented situation our world is facing, Cell7 waits patiently, ready to jump on the stage as soon as possible.
“Cell7 is by far the best female rapper I have seen. Her show was energetic and her
rhymes were fresh over some dope beats. There was plenty of crowd dancing and
singing along, making it one of my favorite shows of the night.”

“There’s no one in the Icelandic rap scene quite like Cell7. While other artists pair up with DJs and favour trap-adjacent beats, the Filipino-Icelandic rhymer fronts a funk band. While she doesn’t shy away from the political statements of some of her contemporaries, she also seems unbelievably casual and comfy, ready to go wild.”
